Our fabulous Irish Nurse, Terrie McEvoy recently visited Adelaide in South Australia (SA) with her sister Kassie and friend Jack, both from Ireland. Terrie took some time out from her busy schedule to check out the ‘unexpected’ beauty of Adelaide.
Terrie didn’t think too much of Adelaide before the trip, however, it captured her heart and she’s already planning a trip back. Adelaide is a small, quieter town than the hustle bustle of Sydney and has a great community feel. Many Travel Nurses decide to start working in Adelaide when they visit Australia as it feels more like home to them, especially coming from a country like Ireland or even a small town in the United Kingdom.
Find out more about Adelaide below and some highlights from Terrie’s trip.
As you probably know by following Terrie’s Instagram and snap chat, she loves spending time at the beach. That’s why she decided to stay in the Glenelg area, to enjoy the beautiful beaches and evening sunsets and it paid off. Glenelg is a charming seaside suburb with white sandy shores, bustling shops and restaurants only 12km from the heart of Adelaide. There is so much to do in the area, including shopping with over 200 speciality shops, festivals and events, sailing, scuba diving and a vibrant nightlife.
Glenelg is also abundant with wild dolphins and swimming with them is a very popular activity. Terrie booked a wild dolphin cruise (first making sure that the Dolphins were not held in captivity!).?Terrie, Kassie and Jack spent the day swimming with the dolphins and would highly recommend this unique experience to anyone.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t any time to visit the wineries, but it’s on Terrie’s bucket list when she returns with her partner David in June and she also wants to go White Shark diving in Port Lincoln. South Australia is Australia’s wine capital and home to the world’s finest wines. The wine regions of McLaren Vale to the South of Adelaide and the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley to the North of Adelaide are just 60 to 90 minutes away making for the perfect weekend getaway.
Terrie’s impression of Adelaide was a special and beautiful place. She is looking forward to her next trip with David and can’t wait to show him the true beauty of it. To read her entire blog and take advantage of all the activities and accommodation options, please check it out here.
